Major Stefan Gliwa is from East Lansing, Michigan and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2007, out of Defiance, Ohio after graduating from Defiance College. After completing recruiting training, Marine Combat Training, and his MOS school, he reported for duty at 1st Battalion, 12th Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. While at 1st Battalion, 12th Marines he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2010 Major Gliwa was selected for commissioned service via Enlisted-Commissioning Program and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 10 December, 2010. Upon completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officers’ Course, he was assigned for duty at 2d Battalion, 3d Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. While at 2d Battalion, 3d Marines he served as Weapons Platoon Commander and Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander.
In 2014 Major Gliwa was assigned to The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia for duty as an instructor. While at The Basic School he served as tactics instructor, staff platoon commander, and infantry officer course instructor.
In 2017 Major Gliwa was assigned as a student at Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduation, he served as an instructor Officer Candidates School.
In 2018 Major Gliwa was assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as Weapons Company Commander and Operations Officer.
Major Gliwa’s personal awards include the Good Conduct Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award. Major Gliwa is married to Amanda and they have two children Marcella and Maddox.
