Sergeant Major Askew was born on 10 March 1976 in Roanoke, AL. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2004 and reported for recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation from 3rd Battalion, Kilo Company, Private Askew attended Marine Corps Combat Training (MCT), at Camp Lejeune North Carolina. Private Askew was then transferred to Camp Johnson, NC, where he was assigned to Financial Management School. Upon completion in September,  Private Askew was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal and received the MOS 3451 Financial Analyst. 
 
In October 2004, Lance Corporal Askew reported to Headquarters & Service Company (H&S), Marine Barracks 8th & I, Washington, DC (MBW). Lance Corporal Askew performed duties as Fiscal/Budget technician and was promoted to the rank of Corporal in September 2005. Corporal Askew participated on the H&S Dignified Transfer Team aboard Dover Airfare Base and completed Corporals Leadership Course in 2006. 
 
In support of the Commandant's Initiative “Get every Marine into the fight”, during Operation Iraqi, Freedom, Corporal Askew joined Task Force National Capital Region (TFNCR) in May of 2007. He deployed to Diyala Province and Ramadi, Iraq- serving as Rifleman, Vehicle Commander, and Sergeant of the Guard during the deployment. In November of 2007, Corporal Askew was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, re-enlisted, and received orders to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, South Carolina. After returning from Iraq in May of 2008, Sergeant Askew completed Drill Instructor School, and reported to Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC in October. In May of 2010, Sergeant Askew attended Sergeants Leadership Course, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In February of 2011, Sergeant Askew completed Martial Arts Instructors Course, aboard MCRD Parris Island, SC, where he received secondary MOS 0916. 
 
    In May of 2011, Sergeant Askew was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He completed SNCO Career Course with honors in June of 2012. In July of 2012, after an extended and successful tour in billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor, Staff Sergeant Askew reported to Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group (MCSCG), Virginia Beach, Virginia, as the Comptroller Chief. Staff Sergeant Askew attended Advance Resource Management Course, Camp Johnson, North Carolina in April of 2013. 
 
In August of 2014, Staff Sergeant Askew reported to Boston University-MIT NROTC Consortium, Boston, Massachusetts where he served as Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI). Staff Sergeant Askew was frocked to Gunnery Sergeant 11 September, 2014. He reported to Officer Candidates School (OCS), Quantico, Virginia in May of 2015 serving as Sergeant Instructor. Gunnery Sergeant Askew was recognized as AMOI of the Year North-East Region in 2016 and 2017. In January of 2016 Gunnery Sergeant Askew attended SNCOA Advanced course and later reported to OCS, Quantico, VA, to serve as Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant for Lima Company. 
 
Gunnery Sergeant Askew reported to 2d Marine Division, AC/S Comptroller Section in October 2017. Frocked in June 2018, he transferred and served as Company First Sergeant, Company B, 1st Battalion 2d Marines. In December 2018 he deployed and served as the Senior Enlisted Leader, BLT 1/2 aboard the USS ARLINGTON in support of the 22d MEU. First Sergeant Askew again deployed with Bravo Company to Okinawa, Japan and the Republic of Korea in support of UDP-E 20.2 in August of 2020, returning in February 2021. In September 2021 First Sergeant Askew reported to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, serving as H&S and Alpha Company First Sergeant. Frocked to Sergeant Major in March 2023 before executing orders to Recruiting Station Saint Louis, 9th Marine Corps District where he currently serves as RS Saint Louis Sergeant Major.
 
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of three awards, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of two awards, Drill instructor Ribbon, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal w/ three bronze stars in lieu of fourth award.
