Major Corinna R Martinez, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 2002. She deployed to Fallujah, Iraq from September 2004- March 2005 with 9th Communication Battalion in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. While deployed she was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP). After graduating from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, she received her commission as a 2ndLt in 2010. Following completion of The Basic School (TBS) and the Basic Communications Officer Course in 2011, she was assigned the military occupational specialty of 0602 Communications Officer.
In 2011, Major Martinez reported to Marine Air Control Group 38 (MACG-38), Marine, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 (MWCS-38) where she served as Alpha Detachment Transmissions Platoon Commander and was later assigned to MACG-38, as the Group’s S-6 Officer. From September of 2013 through March 2014, Major Martinez returned to MWCS-38 and deployed with MWCS-38, Det A as the executive officer/ operations officer, in support of a Theater Support Contingency Exercise in Bahrain.
From 2014-2017, Major Martinez was assigned to Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Staff Support Center located in the Pentagon. During this time, she was assigned to the JC5 Plans and Strategy Division where she served as a senior technical advisor, frequently liaising with the J6 and service HQ action officers. She also later served as a systems control officer in the JC3, C2 Systems Operations Division. While there her responsibilities included supervising an 11 member joint service communications watch team and global help desk in direct support of the Secretary of Defense's (SECDEF) Command and Control (C2) Systems for the National Military Command Center (NMCC), and the Joint Staff (JS). Following her tour at the Pentagon Major Martinez was selected to attend resident PME at Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).
After completing EWS Major Martinez reported to 9th Communication Battalion in June 2018. While at 9th Communication Battalion Major Martinez served as the S-3 Alpha from June 2018- May 2019, Company Commander, Company A, from May 2019- July 2020, and Battalion Operations Officer from May 2020 until June 2021.
Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
