GySgt Barrientos was born in Bronx, NY. He enlisted in November 2003 and underwent recruit training at 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Kilo Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina.
In February 2004, Private Barrientos completed Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and was assigned the military occupational specialty of 0161, Postal Clerk. Upon completion of MCT, he attended the Postal Clerk School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
In May 2004, Private Barrientos received orders to 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as a Postal clerk, Finance Clerk, assistant Postal Supervisor, and Postal NCOIC. While assigned to 1st Marines Logistics Group, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2-1, Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7, and Operation Iraqi Freedom 6-8.
In March 2009, Sergeant Barrientos retrained and was assigned the military occupational specialty of 6046, Aircraft Maintenance administration specialist. Upon completion of aircraft maintenance administration school he was transferred to HMLA 773-DET B, Johnstown, PA. While assigned to HMLA 773 DET B he was assigned numerous billets to include Aircraft maintenance administration specialist, Central Technical Publications Librarian, and Data Analyst.
In April 2013, Sergeant Barrientos received orders to Recruiters School, MCRD San Diego, California. Upon graduation, he was recognized as the Honor graduate. Sergeant Barrientos was assigned to Prior Service Recruiting Station 9, Recruiting Sub-Station (RSS) Battle, Michigan, Permanent Contact Station (PCS) Indianapolis, Indiana. While serving as a recruiter he was recognized as RSS Battle creek’s Recruiter of the Year in 2015.
In August 2017, Staff Sergeant Barrientos was selected to become a Career Recruiter as the SNCOIC of RSS Indianapolis, Indiana. He was tasked with building RSS Indianapolis from the ground up since this was a newly developed RSS due to a recent structure change at the time. While serving as PSRSS Indianapolis’ SNCOIC he was recognized as SNCOIC of the Year for FY 2017, 2018, and 2019.
In October 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Barrientos was selected to become the Recruiter Instructor for Prior Service Recruiting Station 9.
Gunnery Sergeant Barrientos’ personal decorations include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
Gunnery Sergeant Barrientos is married to Jennifer and they have three sons, Romeo (22), Brandon (19,) and Jacques (13).
