Major Russell A. Hill enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves out of Winchester, Kansas in May of 2006, as an Ammunition Technician.  Upon completion of Recruit Training and Marine Combat Training he reported to General Support Ammunition Platoon, 4th Supply Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group in Topeka, Kansas where he served 2 years as a reserve Marine while earning his college degree from Emporia State University.

In December of 2007, Major Hill graduated college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  In January of 2008, after graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School and subsequently commissioned as a Marine Corps Officer in March of 2008.  Following completion of The Basic School and Logistics Officers Course in February of 2009, Major Hill was assigned to 1st Marine Division.

While serving with 1st Marine Division, Major Hill executed duties as the Motor Transport Platoon Commander and Battalion Logistics Officer for 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion and as the Assistant Logistics Officer for 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion.  He deployed once with 1st LAR to Southern Helmand Province, Afghanistan and also deployed to Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras as the Company Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Support Company. 

In June of 2012, Major Hill reported to Marine Detachment Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, where he served as the Officer in Charge of Motor Vehicle Operators’ Course for 2 years and then as the Headquarters Company Commander and Director of Support for the Detachment.  Following this assignment, Major Hill attended the U.S. Army’s Logistics Captain’s Career Course in Fort Lee, VA.

In October of 2016, Major Hill reported to 3d Transportation Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company Commander of Motor Transport Company and deployed twice for exercises in South Korea.  After his promotion to Major in February of 2018, he deployed to Darwin, Australia as the Logistics Officer of Marine Rotational Force Darwin, a Marine Air Ground Task Force which conducts partnered training with the Australian military.

Major Hill reported to Recruiting Station Kansas City on December 12, 2018.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.  He is married to the former Alyson Tripp of Lansing, Kansas.  They have a daughter, Emma, and two sons, Lucas and Jacob.
