Family Readiness

The Unit, Personal and Family Readiness Program (UPFRP) serves as the primary communication link between the command and families of Midwest Marines. The District Deployment Readiness Coordinator (DRC) works in conjunction with Uniformed Readiness Coordinators (URC) at each Recruiting Station to educate, assist and empower Marines and families across the Midwest to enhance personal readiness and quality of life.

As the Deployment Readiness Coordinator (DRC), my primary duty is to support the Commanding Officer with communication to the Marines and their family members, to provide information and resource referral, to provide deployment and readiness support, and volunteer management. I also serve as an informational link between the 9thMarine Corps District Commander and your Recruiting Station (RS) Uniformed Readiness Coordinators (URCs). Your unit URCs will keep you informed of training events, briefs, local, current and command-sponsored events. You will receive e-mails, phone calls and messages from MOL informing you of what is taking place within your respective command.

It is imperative that you contact your URC if you have any major life events, or changes in contact information, so that they can update their databases. As soon as you come on deck, ensure that you check in with either me at the District HQs, or your URC at the RS. We have important documents for you to complete. Spouses and other family members are welcomed to contact me or the RS URC for information about the area, resource referrals, and volunteer opportunities.

On behalf of the Command Team, welcome aboard. I along with the other URCs look forward to assisting you and your family, with any concerns you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

L.I.N.K.S. stands for Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and Skills. It is a volunteer, team-mentoring program designed by spouses for spouses. The program offers orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle, helping new spouses adapt to the unique challenges of military life. The LifeSkills Program offers an array of classes and workshops to encourage personal growth and strengthen the Marine and family for continual readiness.  MCRD San Diego supports these programs within the District.

Communication:  Utilizing email and social media, share timely and relevant authorized and official communication to the Marines and families and act as a conduit for communication back to the Command on various issues and concerns within the District.

Information & Referral:  Perhaps the largest portion of the work done is proactively and reactively providing resource information to overcome challenges and to achieve personal and professional goals.  Family Readiness Volunteers provide vital assistance in providing resource referral as well.

Volunteer Program:  A solid Personal & Family Readiness Program benefits from a dedicated group of volunteers who share their knowledge and skills with those around them.  Reach out to your DRC/URC for the training and to see how you can help build a sense of family around you.  We would love to have at least one volunteer for each Recruiting Sub-Station.

Personal and Professional Development:  Marine Corps Recruiting Command provides free access to trainers who can provide in-person and/or virtual workshops on various personal and professional topics.  Trainings are tailored to meet the specific needs of the intended audience, understanding that time is a precious resource on this duty. Contact the DRC for a listing of trainings and details.

Healthcare (Medical/Dental/Vision): The DRC/URC attempts to channel your concerns and needs to the right action agency to resolve healthcare challenges such as claims or enrollment.

Exceptional Family Member Program:  A mandatory support program for Marines with dependents who have special medical or educational needs, this program ensures a continuum of care.  The DRC may reach out to remind you to update your records.

Relocation & Transition: for the many issues that arise during your move/relocation or change in careers, the DRC/URC provides support and information. This boost extends not only to the Marine, also to the spouse and family.

Legal & Financial: Information and assistance concerning legal and financial issues are available, including tax assistance through your local military installation or from MCRD/ERR’s legal center.

Recruiting Duty Trainings for Families

Recruiting 101:  Each RS conducts a Proficiency and Review (PAR) training for the Marines once they are checked in.  Each RS’s PAR training has time set aside to welcome spouses and conduct Recruiting 101.  Recruiting 101 will give spouses a better idea of what to expect with Recruiting Duty and to learn ways they can assist their Marine.  Talk with your URC to find out when the next PAR training will be at your new RS.

District Spouse Orientation Course (DSOC):  A great deal of resources and effort go into making DSOC a valuable opportunity for spouses to recharge and connect with others within their general geographic area to build a network of support while on recruiting duty.  It is typically a 3 day workshop which incorporates 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, personality insights, Recruiting 101, personal safety, organization, goal planning, stress management, and a talk with the Colonel and Sergeant Major of the district. You can contact the DRC or your URC for more information on the upcoming DSOC for your RS.  We are currently looking at 2021 for our next DSOC.

Contact Information

Authorized Contact:  Every recruiter attends Basic Recruiters Course (BRC) at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, California. Assignment Day takes place about halfway through the course where the recruiter will find out their Recruiting Station assignment.  On Assignment Day the DRC will brief the recruiters either in person or virtually and will have them begin the process for getting themselves and their families connected using NAVMC 11654.  Once this information is collected by the DRC, the listed authorized contact(s) will receive an email with links to important information and their RS Points of Contact.  If you did not receive this email, contact the DRC directly, all types of things happen when transcribing handwritten email addresses.
