Katie Erwin, an 18-year-old senior at Owatonna High School, receives the Recruiting Substation Mankato Gung-Ho Poolee Award from Recruiting Station Twin Cities Commanding Officer Maj. Kenneth Gawronski, a 35-year-old Liberty, Mo., native. Erwin, the only woman out of 38 people from the Mankato office who attended mini boot camp, ships off to Parris Island, S.C., on July 11.
