Barbara Griffin, a 17-year-old graduate of Canistoea High School, watches Kari Jondro, 17, from Prior Lake, Minn., put up Haleemah Abdus-Salam's hair with a sock-bun while attending a Recruiting Station Twin Cities female pool function June 24-25. Women are usually taught this hygiene technique by drill instructors once they arrive at boot camp. The purpose of the pool function involved preparing our nation's future warriors for obstacles they'll face at recruit training. Abdus-Salam, 18, from Tempe, Ariz., ships off to Parris Island, S.C., on March 26, 2012. Griffin was recruited out of the Sioux Falls, S.D., office.
