NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES -- Marine Col. Jason Morris, 9th Marine Corps District commanding officer, and Navy Capt. James D. Hawkins, Naval Station Great Lakes commanding officer, cut the ribbon to officially open the 9th Marine Corps District headquarters building during a ribbon cutting ceremony aboard the Naval Station, Sept. 1, 2015. The ceremony also commemorated the 78th anniversary of the unit's activation as 9th Reserve District, which was established aboard the Naval Station, Sept. 1, 1937. Col. Jason Morris, the District's commanding officer, spoke during the ceremony about the importance of recruiting and how maintaining a well-qualified, well-trained Marine Corps begins with the individual recruiter on the streets. The District is responsible for recruiting enlisted, officer and prior service Marines across 660,000 square miles and 13 states in the Midwest region.
