The Combat Center Show Band stopped at Coon Rapids High School today during their Midwest Fall tour and surprised students with a wall-shaking performance.

The group will make several high school visits throughout Minnesota and Western Wisconsin during the week to promote the Marine Corps Musician Enlistment Option Program.

“I think it’s really cool that they’re taking the time to play for us,” said Sean Haugen, an 18-year-old senior and jazz enthusiast. “I didn’t know a lot about the program before their visit so I’m going to have to check it out.”

Today’s high school visit also included a performance by the 9th Marine Corps District Marine Band placement director and a trombone instructor from the School of Music.

“Everyone was phenomenal, said Brian Duffy, Coon Rapids High School band director. “Many students don’t know they have an opportunity to continue their career as a musician by serving in the military, so performances like this are very important.”

Duffy also said he hopes to host another Marine band in the near future.

“Kids need to see that music is just about having fun,” he said. “These Marine musicians showed them that today.”
