Drayton Carlberg, one of the top high school football players in the nation, was selected to play in the United States Marine Corps Semper Fi All American Bowl this January.

Carlberg, a student from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis Minnesota, was selected for this bowl by the United States Marine Corps, for his performance both on and off field.

"He is a good kid," said Staff Sgt. Tyanna Tolson, the Marine Corps recruiter from his area. "He has a good head on his shoulders, he stays out of trouble and he tries to do the right thing. Of course he's a great football player, but that's not the reason why he was selected. He was selected because the Marine Corps believes Drayton Carlberg represents what the Marine Corps is all about: Honor, Courage and Commitment."

Carlbergwas the only student selected to play in the Semper Fi Bowl from Minnesota, this year.

"I think it's a great honor to be selected to play," said Carlberg. "I am excited to represent Minnesota in this bowl, and show the country what Minnesota football can do."

Carlberg, who has verbally committed to play for the University of Oregon, next year, has been selected to play in other bowls, however, this one holds special significance for him.

"My grandfather was in the Marine Corps, so I wanted to play in this one to make him proud," said Carlberg. "I am lucky to have this kind of opportunity."

The Semper Fi Bowl will air live on Fox Sports One, January 4.
