Colonel Aaron C. Lloyd
9th Marine Corps District

Colonel Lloyd is a native of Davenport, Iowa.  He attended Iowa State University and graduated in December of 1999 with a degree in history.  After commissioning and initial training, he was assigned as an assault amphibian officer.

 

Colonel Lloyd reported to 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion (AABn), 2d Marine Division for duty as a platoon commander with Bravo Company.  He deployed as 2nd Platoon Commander supporting Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM I (OIF) during the march up.  He also served as a company executive officer and company commander in 2d AABn.

 

Following his tour in the operating forces, Colonel Lloyd reported to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion (RTBn) aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, serving as a series commander in India Company and commanding Mike Company.  During this time, he was responsible for executing entry-level training for multiple companies of recruits.  He also served as the Battalion Operations Officer for 3rd RTBn. 

 

Returning to 2d AABn, Colonel Lloyd assumed duties as the Battalion Operations Officer until he was attached to Regimental Combat Team 6 (RCT-6) for duty as a Senior Watch Officer, deploying to Iraq with the RCT in support of OIF 09.1 and conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province.  Returning to 2d AABn, he commanded Headquarters and Service Company until he assumed the role of Battalion Executive Officer upon his promotion to major.

 

Colonel Lloyd then assumed command of Recruiting Station Chicago.  After successfully completing his tour, he served as a Faculty Adviser at Expeditionary Warfare School teaching captains career-level professional military education.  Following his time as an instructor, he assumed duties as the District Operations Officer at 8th Marine Corps District, Fort Worth, Texas where he coordinated Marine Corps recruiting operations in the south-central portion of the United States.

 

Returning to the operating forces, he commanded 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He then received orders to the Marine Corps Office of Legislative Affairs aboard the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.  He was assigned as the Manpower Portfolio Manager and was responsible for interactions with the U.S. Congress regarding Marine Corps personnel and training issues.  His most recent assignment was as the Chief of Staff for the Office of Legislative Affairs in which he assisted the Legislative Assistant to the Commandant in overseeing all legislative interactions between the Marine Corps and Congress.

 

He has graduated from the following formal schools, each time with distinction: Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Marine Corps War College.  He has earned two master’s degrees.
