Colonel William Brown

Colonel William P. Brown currently serves as the Commanding Officer, 9th Marine Corps District, Western Recruiting Region. 

After graduating from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, he commissioned through the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) Program in April 1999. Following The Basic School, he attended the Logistics Officers Course, where he was assigned the 0402 MOS (Logistics Officer).

His operational tours include Landing Support Platoon Commander and Executive Officer, Company B, 1st Transportation Support Battalion (TSB), 1st Force Service Support Group (FSSG) (2000 - 2002); Platoon Commander, 1st Air Delivery Platoon, 1st TSB (2002 - 2003); Assistant Logistics Officer, Command Element, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) (2007 - 2009); Logistics Officer, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division (2014 - 2016); and Commanding Officer, 1st TSB, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group (2016 - 2018).

Colonel Brown’s supporting establishment tours include Series Commander, Company Commander, and Battalion Operations Officer, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (2003 - 2006); Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Denver, 8th Marine Corps District (2009 - 2012); Marine Aide-de-camp to the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert (2013 - 2014); Deputy Division Chief and Division Chief, J38 Mobility Requirements Division, USTRANSCOM (2019 - 2021); and Assistant Chief of Staff, Recruiting, Western Recruiting Region (2021-2023). 

His overseas deployments include Air Delivery Platoon Commander, 1st FSSG, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM I (2003); Assistant Logistics Officer, Command Element, 15th MEU, WESTPAC 08-2, USS PELELIU; and Logistics Officer, Command Element, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) 16.1 (2016).

He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course (2002); U.S. Army Aerial Delivery Material Officers Course (2002); Expeditionary Warfare School – Resident (2007); College of Naval Command and Staff, U.S Naval War College (2013); and The Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy (2019). He holds a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego’s School of Business (2005), Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies (2013), Master of Science in National Security and Resource Strategy (2019), Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (2020), and Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) (2020).

Colonel Brown’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 4th award), Defense Superior Service Medal, and is authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Parachute Insignia.
