Sergeant Major Jason Leader

Sergeant Major Jason M. Leader attended recruit training in May 1998 at MCRD Parris Island. Upon completion of Recruit Training, Sergeant Major Leader reported to the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, NC to receive combat skills training and proceeded to MOS training at Ft Leonard Wood, MO for the basic Heavy Equipment Operations Course, graduating top of his class and receiving meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal.

In December of 1998, he reported to 8th Communications Battalion, 2nd FSSG at Camp Lejeune, NC where he was assigned as an operator and equipment dispatcher. In October of 1999, he was promoted to Corporal, and appointed as chief dispatcher. During this tour he served as tool room NCO, Licensing NCO, Safety/Hazmat NCO and Chief Dispatcher. 

In May of 2001, Sergeant Major Leader reported to 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, 3rd FSSG for duty at Platoon Sergeant in Support Co. Heavy Equipment Plt. While stationed with 3rd TSB, First Sergeant Leader deployed to Korea, the Philippines and Thailand in support of operations Cobra Gold and Balikatan. In April of 2005, Sergeant Major Leader reported to 2nd Marine Logistics Group and was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Charlie Company where he was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of combat operations.

In October 2006, Sergeant Major Leader was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. In April of 2007, Sergeant Major Leader was selected to serve his special duty assignment as a Combat Instructor. Upon completion of the Basic Combat Instructors Course as well as Formal Schools Instructors Course, Sergeant Major Leader was assigned as a troop handler in Echo Company, School of Infantry East, Camp Geiger, NC. While serving at SOI, Sergeant Major Leader held various billets that included Platoon Commander and Chief Instructor for India Company.

In November of 2008, Sergeant Major Leader was transferred to Student Administration Company to serve as Platoon Commander for Medical Rehabilitation Platoon. In August of 2009, Sergeant Major Leader was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and was appointed to fill the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In June of 2010, Sergeant Major Leader reported to 2nd MLG, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Bravo Company for duty as a Platoon Sergeant. While at 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Bravo Company, Sergeant Major Leader would forward deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in order to support combat operations in Afghanistan. After returning from deployment in July of 2011, Sergeant Major Leader transferred to Bridge Company and was assigned as the Company 1stSgt.

In May of 2012, Sergeant Major Leader reported back to Okinawa for duty as the Maintenance Staff Noncommissioned Officer in charge at 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Engineer Maintenance Company, and subsequently the Company 1stSgt. In April of 2014, Sergeant Major Leader was assigned to duty with III Marine Expeditionary Force in support of civil affairs operations until his selection to First Sergeant and subsequent promotion in January of 2015 with follow on orders to V18 in February of the same year.

Sergeant Major Leader was assigned to Charlie Company with V18 and deployed in support of SPMAGTF Crisis Response Africa to Sigonella, Italy from January until July of 2016. Upon his return, Sergeant Major Leader was assigned as Alpha Company's first sergeant until February of 2017, when he received orders to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools with Financial Management School aboard Camp Johnson. In August of 2019, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and served with II Marine Information Group with 2D Radio Battalion. 

His personal awards include: The Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal w/ 2 gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ gold star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
