Sergeant Major Jason Leader

Sergeant Major Leader enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1998 and conducted Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island. Upon completion, he reported to the School of Infantry and follow on MOS school in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, where he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. Upon graduation, he reported to 8th Communications Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune, NC where he was assigned as an Operator and Equipment Dispatcher. In October of 1999, he was promoted to Corporal, and appointed as Chief Dispatcher. During his tour he served as Tool Room NCO, Licensing NCO, Safety/Hazmat NCO and Chief Dispatcher. 


In May of 2001, Sergeant Leader reported to 3rd Transportation Support Battalion 3rd Force Service Support Group for duty as Platoon Sergeant in Support Co, Heavy Equipment Platoon. While stationed with 3rd TSB he deployed to Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand in support of operations Cobra Gold and Balikatan and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. In April of 2005, he reported to 2nd Marine Logistics Group and was assigned to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Charlie Company where he deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of combat operations. Upon his return he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.


In April of 2007, Staff Sergeant Leader reported to the Basic Combat Instructors Course and Formal School Instructor Course aboard, School of Infantry East, Camp Geiger, NC. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Echo Company, Marine Combat Training Battalion where he served as a Troop Handler, Platoon Commander and Chief Instructor as well as Company Gunnery Sergeant, during this tour he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. Upon completion of his tour, he completed the SNCO Advanced Course as a distinguished graduate. 


In June of 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Leader reported back to 2nd MLG, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Bravo Company for duty as a Platoon Sergeant, while at 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Bravo Company, he was forward deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to support combat operations in Afghanistan. After returning from deployment in July of 2011, he transferred to Bridge Company and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant. 


In May of 2012, he reported back to Okinawa for duty as the Maintenance Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge at 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Engineer Maintenance Company and subsequently the Company First Sergeant. In April of 2014, he was assigned to duty with III MEF in support of Civil Affairs Operations aboard the 31st MEU, until his selection to First Sergeant and subsequent promotion in January of 2015 with follow on orders to V18 in February of that same year.


In November of 2015, First Sergeant Leader deployed in support of SPMAGTF Crisis Response Africa to Sigonella, Italy with V18 from January until July of 2016. Upon his return he was assigned as Alpha Company's First Sergeant, until February of 2017 when he received orders to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools with Financial Management School aboard Camp Johnson. In August of 2019, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and served with II Marine Information Group with 2D Radio Battalion until February of 2021, when he reported as the Sergeant Major of Recruiting Station Harrisburg until February of 2023. 


Sergeant Major Leader currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of 9th Marine Corps Recruiting District for the Western Recruiting Region.


Sergeant Major Leader attended all levels of resident Marine Corps Enlisted PME; Senior Enlisted Joint PME I & II; and the Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of Maryland Global Campus. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy Achievement Medal with one gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon.
