Major Higgs enlisted in the Marine Corps, participated in the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program, and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in through Texas A&M University in May 2014 receiving a Bachelor's of Science in Economics.
He served as an 0811 in multiple billets in Battery M, 3d Battalion, 11th Marines, MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, Calif., and participated in the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan. He also served as an 0811/0814 Platoon Sergeant/Instructor and SNCOIC for the HIMARS and EFSS New Equipment Training Teams, MARCORSYSCOM, Fort Sill, Okla.
As an artillery officer, he served as AXO/Guns Platoon Commander with Battery Q, 5th Battalion, 14th Marines. While there, he supported a year-long IA billet with III MEF, serving as the 12th Marines Regimental Fire Direction Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. He planned and coordinated operations and exercises throughout the INDOPACOM AOR, to include the Regimental Korean Marine Exchange Program and Artillery Relocation Training Program, and fulfilled real world operational requirements to Pacific Augmentation Team - Philippines throughout two rotations.
In August 2017, Major Higgs participated in SPMAGTF-14th Marines during the hurricane relief efforts in the South Texas/Florida/Bahamas locations. From there, Major Higgs was assigned to 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, as a Company Fire Support Officer in support of Battalion Landing Team 3/1, deploying on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to INDOPACOM and CENTCOM. He was then assigned as Battalion Fire Support Officer in support of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.
Upon returning from the 13th MEU, he was assigned as a Targeting Officer in the I MEF Fires and Effects Coordination Center. He participated in many Operational Planning Teams, conducted for exercises and real-world contingency operations throughout CENTCOM.
In 2021, Major Higgs commanded Battery Q, 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, executing operations and exercises throughout INDOPACOM while on Unit Deployment Program 21.2. Upon completion of battery command, Major Higgs served as Assistant Operations Officer for 2d Battalion, 11th Marines, until 2022 when he was assigned as the Assistant Battalion Inspector-Instructor, 2d Battalion, 14th Marines, and later to MARCENT Integration Team in support of NAVCENT/C5F, Bahrain as a Fires Planner in 2023-2024 supporting Operations PROSPERITY GUARDIAN and POSIDEN ARCHER within CENTCOM.
He is currently serving as the Recruiting Station Commanding Officer, RS Twin Cities, 9th Marine Corps District.
