Pederson, a Minnesota native who stood on the same podium when he was in high school, is an operations clerk with Recruiting Station Twin Cities. The 2012 Junior and Cadet Nationals kicked off on Saturday with the Cadet women's freestyle competition. The event will conclude on July 21 with the Junior Men's Freestyle championship.

Cpl. Sean Maloney, a contrabass bugler with The Commandant's Own, watches music enthusiasts arrive at TCF Bank Stadium July 14 for DCI Minnesota. Maloney, 26, from Columbus, attended the event with Recruiting Station Twin Cities to look for potential Marine musicians. Maloney acquired a bachelor's degree in music education from Ohio State in 2010. He shipped off to boot camp two weeks after the graduation ceremony.

Draveling and several aspiring Marines from RSS Burnsville recently spent their weekend removing debris after a thunderstorm knocked down several trees, causing thousands of dollar of damage.

Hundreds of people visited the Marine booth to take the fitness challenge, including Miss Rodeo Minnesota Sabrina Behr.

Both athletes will now be able to attend the two-day camp, which takes place in more than 20 cities across the country, free of charge.
