       Sergeant Major Young is a native of Memphis, TN. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training on July 13 1998 at MCRD San Diego, CA. Upon completion of recruit training he attended the School of Infantry for Marine Combat Training where he was promoted meritoriously to Private First Class. Sergeant Major Young was then transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to train as a 3531 Motor Transport Operator. In December of 1998 Sergeant Major Young was assigned to 3d FSSG Truck Company Okinawa, Japan where he served as a medium section operator and a dispatcher.

       In January of 2000 Sergeant Major Young reported to Service Company, 8th Communications Battalion, 2d MHG, II MEF, Camp Lejeune, NC for duty. During his time in 8th Communications Battalion Sergeant Major Young served in Service Company and Headquarters Company as a MT dispatcher, Battalion Primary Marksmanship Instructor, and Battalion MCMAP Instructor. During this tour he was also promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant.  In May of 2002 Sergeant Major Young made a Lateral MOS move to become a 0651/0626 Data Network Specialist/Fleet Satellite Operator and after 14 months of communications training he returned to 8th Communications Battalion this time to serve in Support Company. During this second tour with 8th Communications Battalion he served as a Fleet and Ground Mobile Forces Satellite Team Leader, the Satellite Platoon Sergeant and the Support Company Training Noncommissioned Officer.

       In January of 2005 Sergeant Major Young received orders to the Basic Recruiters School and upon graduation he reported to Recruiting Station Pittsburgh, 1st Marine Corps Recruiting District for duty as a canvassing recruiter. In April of 2006 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and immediately assumed the position as Recruiting Sub-Station Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge. 

       In March of 2008 Sergeant Major Young left a highly successful tour on recruiting duty and reported to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28, 2d Marine Air Wing, Cherry Point NC, here he would serve in multiple billets to include Radio Platoon Sergeant, Satellite Platoon Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, Alpha Company First Sergeant, TAV-B Communications Chief and Squadron Administration Chief. In December of 2008 he deployed with Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28 as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for DET A to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed Sergeant Major Young was extended in order to serve as the Sal Sinjar Detachment Communications Chief. Upon his return from Iraq Sergeant Major Young was selected for Gunnery Sergeant and promoted on 1 January 2010. 

       In January of 2011 Gunnery Sergeant Young attended Communications Chief School upon graduation he was transferred to 2d Battalion, 23rd Marines (2/23), 4th Marine Division, to serve as the Battalion Communications Chief. During his time with 2/23 Sergeant Major Young served as the Battalion Communications Chief, Battalion S6 Officer, Battalion EKMS Manager, Greater Los Angeles Toys for Tots coordinator and the Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant. 

       In December of 2012 Sergeant Major Young was selected to the rank of First Sergeant. He was frocked to this rank on 6 May 2013 and transferred to Bridge Company C, 6th Engineer Support Battalion to serve as the Inspector Instructor First Sergeant. In January of 2015 Sergeant Major Young assumed responsibility of the command and was appointed as the Inspector Instructor until he departed in October of 2015. Sergeant Major Young was transferred to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in November of 2015. While there Sergeant Major Young served as the Battery S First Sergeant and the Battalion Sergeant Major, he also participated in countless field and training exercises and from October of 2016 to May of 2017 he deployed with Battery S to the Pacific Area of Operations as part of the Forward Deployed Forces program. 

       In November of 2017 he was selected for promotion to his current rank and in January of 2018 he reported to Recruiting Station San Diego, 12th Marine Corps Recruiting District to serve as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major. In February of 2020 he departed Recruiting Station San Diego and reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing to serve as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  

       In May of 2021 he detached from Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 in order to assume his current position as the 9th Marine Corps Recruiting District Sergeant Major.

       Sergeant Major Young is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy his personal decorations include, the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
