Hundreds of local residents visited Veterans Memorial Park May 30 to honor the memory of service members listed on the Honoring All Veterans Memorial and those serving at home and abroad today. The memorial’s centerpiece is a bronze bust of Iwo Jima flag-raiser and former Richfield, Minn., resident Cpl. Charles "Chuck" W. Lindberg. Four granite tablets, each with 120 veterans' names, have been erected near the bronze statue. A fifth tablet is in the process of being filled with names and the site will continue to grow as additional service members are added. For more photos of the memorial, visit www.facebook.com/rstwincites.

Instead of teaming with activity and overflowing with cars, nearly 6,000 names of service members killed during Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom were written and the ground as part of the Empty Parking Lot Project May 27. A handful of students started the project at 4:00 p.m., on Thursday and finished around 5:30 a.m., the following morning after snatching up all of the chalk from every store in Hudson, Wis. Event coordinator Ben Peters even had to make an extra trip to Woodbury, Minn., at 11:00 p.m., to buy additional supplies. Overall, students spent more than $100 on chalk to complete the project.
